Our Story

A Quiet Obsession With Flowers and Thread

How a windowsill full of cuttings became a shop full of stitchable gardens.

Where It Began

I've always loved plants more than I could reliably keep alive. Years of half-dead herbs on a kitchen windowsill led me to a sketchbook instead — I started drawing the flowers I couldn't grow, then found myself translating those drawings into grids of little coloured squares.

Cross stitch became my way of making flowers last. A rose that wilts in three days can live in soft cotton floss for decades, framed on a wall or folded into a gift for someone I love. That idea — permanence through patience — is still the heart of every ThreadsAndWhispers design.

From Hobby to Shop

The first patterns I ever charted were only for myself, worked out longhand on graph paper at the kitchen table. When friends began asking to stitch the same florals, I taught myself proper charting software and started listing a small handful of PDFs on Etsy, half-expecting no one to notice.

They noticed. What began as three botanical patterns has grown into a full catalogue spanning wildflowers, roses, vintage samplers and seasonal designs — each one still hand-drawn before it's ever charted, and each one tested by real stitchers before it's ever listed.

What Guides Every Pattern

I design for the stitcher who wants their finished piece to look as soft and painterly as the flower it's based on — not stiff or overly geometric. That means careful shading, restrained colour palettes, and charts that are honest about their difficulty level so you always know what you're picking up.

Our Values

What We Believe In

Original Botanical Art

Every pattern starts as a hand-drawn study, never a stock illustration, so our designs stay one of a kind.

Honest Difficulty Ratings

We test every chart with real stitchers before listing it, so the difficulty label you see is one you can trust.

Slow, Intentional Craft

We design for the quiet joy of the process, not just the finished piece — patterns meant to be savoured.
